Since moving to rural NNY, I have slowly witnessed a common occurrence causing pain.
Here in NNY, we drive a lot.
It’s also immensely cold in the winter.
So, we sit inside a lot. Sometimes from late November to early April.
In the 21st Century, the Internet and smartphone usage has exploded and well…we are plugged in all the time.
That is exactly why the wearable devices have taken off.
So we track how much we are moving.
What’s missing is how we’re moving.
When we get to be over 40, aerobic conditioning isn’t enough.
It’s not enough to count your steps.
Moving into the 4th decade of life, resistance training is a must.
The ratio of muscle loss is 8% per decade after you reach 40.
Hate hearing that you have to lift weights ?
Then do one exercise.
Ride a bicycle.
Keep your legs strong and lubricate your knees, hips and ankles.
A bicycle is great for balance while also being easy on your joints.
Plus, it’s great feeling the wind on your face.
It just might make you feel like a kid again.
