That is the intent. To change your point of view.
Your Forgotten Legs
I have worked on enough clients over the years to become aware of a common theme. What I notice in the media, articles, internet searches blah, blah blah..is all the noise around the hip flexor compartment.
What I want to make you aware is the reason why the hip flexor/psoas is not moving properly and why it is tight to begin with is because these small muscles are overworked and overused. And it is NOT because of a weak core.
My goodness, how many articles have you read about your weak core and abs ?
What about your legs ? Remember those ? The 2 limbs below the waist that enable you to walk, enable you to get up from a sitting position and so many other movements?
Your legs consist of the most powerful muscles in the body and because you have no pain there, you forget that they even exist. Instead your brain focuses on where the pain is coming from…your back.
I get it. I used to suffer from chronic low back pain myself.
What I want you to know is: get the focus off strengthening your low back and core. Instead, focus on strengthening your legs.
Why the Legs?
Your back is doing too much. You are recruiting too many small muscles to lift and bend over. Notice the next time you bend over, why don’t you get on the floor to pick something up.
Is it because you cannot get on the floor ?
Are your legs too weak to enable you to stand back up?
Do you have weak knees ?
Are you suffering from some arthritis in your knees, ankles, hips so you cannot get on the floor in the first place?
Ask yourself these questions. Become aware of why you are even bending over at the waist.
Everything in life starts with awareness. What are you not aware of ?
